Choose what applies to you:
For everyone
- ID card or passport, and your GESY details.
- A list of all your policies: insurer, policy number, what it covers, renewal date, claims phone number.
- Who the beneficiaries are on each life policy.
- Receipts for premiums paid (useful for your tax return too).
See also the claim readiness checklist.
I have a car
- Insurance certificate and registration document.
- Your insurer’s claims and roadside assistance numbers.
- Which drivers are covered and what the excess is.
If something happens: what to do after a road accident.
I have a home (owned or rented)
- The home policy: the sum for the building and the sum for the contents.
- Photos or video of every room and receipts for valuable items.
- Serial numbers of appliances (and the IMEI of phones).
If something happens: damage at home or theft.
I have a mortgage
- Which policies are assigned to the bank (usually fire-and-earthquake and life).
- The loan balance and end date, to compare with the life cover amount.
See the loan protection guide.
I have private health insurance
- Insurance card and policy number.
- How to ask for approval before a planned admission or operation.
- A folder for discharge summaries, medical reports and itemised bills.
If needed: what to do if you go into hospital.
I have life or other personal cover
- The policies (life, critical illness, income protection, accident), or at least their numbers.
- Group plans through your employer and any provident fund: who your family should contact.
For your family: what to do when someone close to you dies.
I have a business or staff
- Employer’s liability insurance and any public or professional liability cover.
- Property and equipment insurance, with a list of the equipment.
- Staff group plans and who the contact person is.
